This week, RPHS students have been engrossing themselves in all things literary at the Wimbledon BookFest. On Wednesday, a group of Year 8 students were invited to see Gemma Malley talk about her favourite book (To Kill A Mockingbird), and to discuss the inspiration for her own books.

Malley is the author of several Young Adult novels, including The Declaration series and The Killables series. She went into detail about her experience studying philosophy, her first jobs as a writer, and how certain philosophical questions prompted her to write these books. On the return journey, students were full of praise, with one student commenting; "She's so clever, but even when she was talking about philosophy she made it so I understood everything." We all left the BookFest tent with free copies of To Kill A Mockingbird and The Declaration.

As always, the students behaved impeccably and we hope to be invited along again next year!
