Celebrating World Book Day

Yr 7 enjoyed this year’s World Book Day on the 5th March with a full timetable of creative workshops led by external guests and some of our own talented staff. Ms Mistry, KS3 Literacy Coordinator started planning the event 9 months ago in order to secure Alan Durant (author & poet), Michelle Yaa Asantewa (creative writer) and storyteller Kevin Graal.

As well as storytelling and writing workshops, the students took part in an illustration workshop led by the RPHS Graphic Designer and freelance illustrator Mr Malone, they made head dresses based on a character from a David Walliams or Tom Gates book (session led by RPHS art teacher Ms Peliza) and baked the alphabet and created shortbread words in Ms Holman’s catering workshop.

The Yr 7 were joined by Yr 5 students from St Matthews Primary School and the age difference proved no barrier with both groups of students sharing creative ideas. A big thank you to our Yr 8 who acted as ambassadors for the day.
