Amidst the changes nationally to the exam system, Raynes Park High School’s 2018 A-level results have shown a reassuring consistency. In the popular and inclusive Sixth Form, another strong pass rate was achieved with 97% of all examinations passed. Level 3 vocational results are also impressive with over 75% of students achieving Distinction*/Distinction.

Students have secured places at universities of their choice, many with unconditional offers and the majority of whom will be the first in their family to attend university. As well as going on to Higher Education, RPHS students are also embarking on apprenticeships in a range of employment sectors, taking a gap year or following specific pathways at specialist institutions.

The Headteacher, Mrs Heard said “As a comprehensive school, our focus is on ensuring our students achieve their very best results whilst also delivering high value-added (i.e. the progress made from GCSE to A-level). We pride ourselves on keeping restrictions on entry to A-level courses to a minimum and, as a result, a number of students who may not have been able to study A-level courses elsewhere have gained commendable grades. We are also delighted with the achievement of individual students who have overcome personal difficulties with the help of teaching and support staff”.

The notable change nationally this year is that the majority of the subjects taken at A-level have a new syllabus with final exams at the end of the two-year course and little if any coursework components.

Although the students and their teachers have had to cope with many changes, the school is pleased that the strong results for a wide range of students have been maintained. The standard of teaching is high, and the students have responded with enormous commitment and hard work, whilst engaging in a wide range of extra-curricular activities.
