Black History Month: Week 1

Last week Black History Month started.  We began our week with our Sixth Form setting up by covering the hallways in posters of inspiring black people and flags of African and Caribbean counties.

Instead of our usual school bells, this month we will be playing black artists music through the speakers at lesson changeover.  So far the students have enjoyed listening to the great Aretha Franklin, Otis Reading, and TLC.

Every Wednesday during  Black History Month we are treated to different meals traditional to black heritage counties. This week our wonderful canteen staff made delicious Jollof rice and chicken with plantain.

Three of our Year 13 girls presented a fantastic assembly to their fellow Sixth Form piers, which was as entertaining as it was educational. We were delighted by our own maths teacher, Mr Ekpoffiong, talents with playing the saxophone and the important message behind it.

We look forward to this week’s  Black History Month activities.
