Numeracy at Raynes park

At Raynes Park High School we recognise the importance of equipping our students with strong numeracy skills so that they can develop their ability to use these skills effectively in all areas of the curriculum and, most importantly, to prepare them for the demands of education, employment and adult life. Numeracy is a proficiency that involves confidence and competence with numbers and measures whilst developing skills and abilities to solve problems in a variety of contexts.

We have a tutor time numeracy programme where students develop their basic numeracy skills or problem-solving ability. KS3 students follow the Numeracy Ninja Programme which is aimed to increase speed and accuracy of basic numeracy skills and KS4 students work on developing their problem-solving through a series of specially designed booklets.

All teachers at Raynes Park High School are teachers of numeracy. When they are teaching a subject area which involves using a numeracy skill, it will be highlighted to the students using, our numeracy logo, to help develop student confidence in applying numeracy skills across the curriculum.

Hegarty Maths

At Raynes Park High School we are delighted to be using HegartyMaths to support our homework system. HegartyMaths is an amazing website which gives video support for every question students attempt, to ensure that homework can be completed independently. It also comes with some great revision features to support them in doing some independent revision.

Homework can be completed on any device with an internet connection. Students are expected to write notes on the video and show their working out when completing a task. Students are given a homework book for this.

How to log in: Logging in is easy – simply choose the school name and then use the students’ name and date of birth when prompted. If a student is struggling to log on they should contact their maths teacher to check they are logging in with the correct details.

Parental Involvement: Parents can also log in, using their child’s details, to see what they are doing. You can watch the videos with them to see what methods they should be using, and you can also view their past scores to see which areas they are struggling in.

Times Tables Rock Stars

At Raynes Park High School we encourage and challenge our students to improve their times tables recall. Times Tables Rock Stars is a carefully sequenced programmes of daily times tables practice.

Each week concentrates on a different times table, with a recommended consolidation week for rehearsing the tables that have recently been practised every few weeks. Our students can log on as often as they would like. They are also encouraged to participate on Times Tables Rock Stars during the Maths House Competition where they can score points based on the number of correct answers they give through the competition week.
