What is Health and Social Care?

OCR Cambridge Technical in Health and Social Care is for students who are interested in learning about the Health and Social Care Sector. Students will learn about topics and issues linked to this sector including: individual rights, infection control, cultural diversity, sexual health and contraception, and coping with changes in life stages. It is an ideal subject for students who wish to pursue a career in Health, Social Care or Child Care and you will develop a wide range of transferable skills.

What will I study?

The course is offered as an Extended Certificate (1 A level equivalent) and a Diploma (2 A level equivalent) and students will cover mandatory and optional units including:

  • Equality, diversity and rights in health and social care
  • Building positive relationships
  • Caring for older people
  • Anatomy & Physiology for Health and Social Care
  • Infection control
  • Sexual health, reproduction and early development
  • Supporting people with mental health conditions
  • Sociology for health and social care  

How is the course assessed?

The course is assessed via internal and externally assessed units.

  • Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care (Equivalent to one A Level) will be assessed via 3 internally assessed coursework units and 3 externally assessed examination units
  • Cambridge Technical Diploma in Health and Social Care (Equivalent to two A levels) will be assessed via 7 internally assessed coursework units and 5 externally assessed examination units.

The Health and Social Care sector, and the NHS in particular, is one of the world’s largest employers and this vocational subject is designed to support students to achieve their potential and progress to the next stage of their lives. Students will study a wide range of current and interesting topics and will gain an insight into this highly important sector.
