16 - 19 Tuition Fund

Raynes Park High School 16 - 19 Tuition Fund

The purpose of this statement is to set out how Raynes Park Sixth Form will use its 16 – 19 tuition fund allocation to support students who have been academically disadvantaged due to Coronavirus.

What is the 16 - 19 tuition fund?

The 16-19 tuition fund is an additional, one off allocation of funding for the 2023/24 academic year that is ring fenced for the Sixth Form to mitigate disruption to learning arising from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The funding is being provided to support small group tuition for 16 to 19 year olds whose learning has been disrupted and who did not achieve a Grade 5 or above in GCSE English and Maths. Although targeted students are identified based on their prior attainment in English and Maths, the funding can be used to support students in their learning across additional subjects.

How will Raynes Park Sixth Form use the funding?

Raynes Park Sixth Form has committed to utilise the funding to provide additional support to small groups of students that have not yet achieved a Grade 5 in English or Maths. These intervention sessions will take place in addition to the normal timetabled hours. Within this cohort, targeted student intervention will be focused on the following:

  • Students who have not yet achieved a Grade 4 in English and/or Maths on a Level 2 pathway
  • Students who have not yet achieved a Grade 4 in English and/or Maths on a Level 3 pathway
  • Students with English as an Additional Language who have not yet achieved a Grade 4 in English and/or Maths

Support is being prioritised where students will benefit most from small group tuition, and particular regard is being given to the requirements of disadvantaged students and students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

This statement is in line with the Government guidance and we have published this statement to demonstrate how this additional funding will be utilised in the academic year 2023/24. This document may be updated to reflect any changes in ESFA guidance.

Raynes Park High School 16 - 19 Tuition Fund 2023/2024

The fund will primarily be used to provide small group tuition for sixth form students. It’s primarily for students who have not achieved grade 4 or above in at least one of those subjects. The funding is to support small group tuition for students aged 16 to 19 in English, maths and other subjects that have been disrupted, including vocational and/or academic learning. However, the provision will not be limited to tuition for English and maths, but will also be used to help students on to successful destinations and to support them throughout and following on from the pandemic. In addition, it will help to support students who have a grade 4 or above in English and/or maths, are from an economically disadvantaged background and would need catch-up support. Students with special educational needs and disabilities, who require additional tuition to help them catch up with their studies, will also be supported by this provision.

The tuition sessions will be scheduled in addition to the planned programme of study for the students. Tuition and additional support may be delivered using a blend of online and in-school delivery.

Tuition support offered will be based on an individual needs’ assessment. Examples of some of the Tuition Support we will offer include:

  • GCSE re-sit preparation
  • Functional skills preparation
  • CEIAG with our careers advisor
  • Academic mentoring
  • Subject specific support
  • EAL support

The impact of these sessions will be monitored based on student performance and progress in their courses and their preparation for and confidence in applying to future destinations, including higher education, employment and apprenticeships.
