Academic challenge & enrichment

Academic Challenge & Enrichment

At Raynes Park High School we are committed to providing students with a broad range of academic and enrichment opportunities designed to inspire, challenge and support personal and intellectual growth. We encourage every student to engage with these activities to develop new skills and extend their knowledge beyond the National Curriculum.

Our Programmes

Raynes Park High School Aspire Programme

The Raynes Park High School Aspire Programme is designed to further challenge students who joined the school as High Prior Attaining students or who have progressed rapidly whilst at the school in a broad range of subjects. Whilst all students are supported in their academic and personal growth, the Aspire Programme creates elevated opportunities designed to challenge and inspire students to fulfil their potential.

Challenge Weeks

Key Stage 3 students participate in Challenge Weeks that encompass a broad range of engaging themes to appeal to diverse interests, including STEM and Creative Arts. These weeks provide opportunities for students to engage with practical activities that promote critical thinking, creativity and collaboration beyond the classroom.

STEM Opportunities

Students across all Key Stages engage in a wide range of STEM enrichment opportunities.

Key Stage 3 students have the opportunity to attend an after-school STEM Club offering hands-on projects that foster creativity and curiosity and Year 8 students are selected to take part in Science Aspirations Days at King's College London.

At Key Stage 4, students have the opportunity to join a Biology-focused STEM group and participate in engineering challenges such as the Dyson Card Boat Challenge.

At Sixth Form students have the option to become part of the STEM Leaders programme to develop Leadership skills through scientific inquiry as well as entering prestigious competitions such as the British Biology Olympiad.

Raynes Park High School also competes in National initiatives including the London Leaders’ Engineering Competition and the Dyson Engineering Workshop, offering insight into industry-level Engineering and Product Design. Committed to inspiring future STEM Leaders, our students lead outreach projects in local Primary schools and a selection of Maths students participate in the nationally recognised ‘Maths Challenge’.

Debate Society

The Debate Society at Raynes Park is a popular and welcoming space where students in Years 9 - 11 develop communication, listening and critical thinking skills in an inclusive environment. Through engaging discussions and participation in competitions such as the English-Speaking Union Public Speaking Competition, students gain confidence in expressing their ideas clearly and learn to appreciate different perspectives, developing essential skills for interviews, the workplace and beyond.

KS4/5 Academic Mentoring Programme

Key Stage 4 students have the opportunity to work with Year 12 Mentors through our Academic Mentoring Programme. This personalised support helps students to strengthen their understanding of subjects, improve exam technique and develop effective study strategies whilst building confidence and resilience to succeed academically and develop lifelong learning skills.

Kings Senior Aspirations Project
