During the first part of the course you will take part in workshop based activities to build your confidence and introduce you to a range of techniques. This will equip you with the skills needed to be successful. You will then start to produce a personal project based a theme, idea, issue or concept of your choice. This is an opportunity to for you to independently research a subject that you are passionate about. You will produce a sketchbook of practical investigations that will lead to a finished outcome. The practical work will be supported by written annotations and an essay. In Year 13, the exam board will give you a question paper with a range of titles to choose from. You will produce preparatory work in response to the question and complete a 15 hour exam.

You will be assessed on two components of work. Component 1 is the personal investigation and is worth 60% of your overall mark. Component 2 is the Externally set assignment is worth the final 40%.

A Level Fine Art is a natural progression from GCSE Art. If you enjoy expressing your ideas in a visual language and you want to create imaginative and personal work this is the course for you. This is an exciting opportunity to adventurous, creative and develop an enquiring mind. Fine Art is not just for students that want to progress to an art based courses it is a great companion to all other subjects and give you key skills that employers and universities are looking for; innovation, problem solving and creative thinking are transferable skills.
