What is Music Technology?
In terms of contemporary music, the music industry is reliant on the hard-working and skilled professionals who work behind the scenes creating recorded music products and live events. Music Technology explores how advancements in technology have shaped the work and skill sets of these individuals, and supports learners to develop an appreciation and understanding of how these technologies has impacted upon the cultural shifts and music styles of the 20th century and beyond.
What will I study?
This course is structured into five units across the two years in which you will study:
- Studio Recording Techniques
- Mixing and Mastering Techniques
- DAW Production
- Live Sound Engineering
- Working as a Production Team
How will I be assessed?
This is a very practical course in which 60% of your assessment will be based on coursework over four of the units. There will also be a practical examination in which you will respond to a set brief using a DAW for a defined length of time. This practical exam is worth 40%. This course if designed to enable you to create a portfolio of work that will evidence your skill set to potential employers and universities.
Who should study BTEC Level 3 Music Technology?
It is now an industry expectation that any aspiring musician should have a good understanding of Music Technology. This course is well suited to anyone interested in pursuing a career in the creative industries and wishes to continue their music studies from level 2.
