Safeguarding
Raynes Park High School has statutory duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
As described in the Keeping Children Safe in Education (2023) statutory guidance, safeguarding is defined as the following:
- Protecting children from maltreatment
- Preventing impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development
- Ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
- Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.
As per our Safeguarding policy at Raynes Park High School, we work in partnership with external agencies when there are concerns about the welfare of a young person. Any concerns that are identified are discussed with the young person’s parents/carers unless this is identified to compromise the young person’s welfare.
We work collaboratively alongside an extensive network of agencies, as well as an array of well-trained staff who are able to provide support for any young person and their family. We also actively offer advice and signpost families where relevant.
At Raynes Park High School we occasionally work with the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH). MASH is the single point of contact for all safeguarding concerns regarding children. It brings together expert professionals from services that have contact with children, young people and families, making the best possible use of their combined knowledge to keep children safe from harm. Before making an enquiry to MASH we ensure to make contact with parents or carers to gain consent, except for occasions where a child is considered to be at risk of harm and we are led to believe that seeking parental consent may increase this risk.
Early Help intervention is also recommended for families and can be self-referred to should any early intervention and support be required at any stage in a child of young person’s life.
